Porsche Macan : Welcome the Baby!

Porsche has always been famous for its sheer performance cars and top notch quality.A brand owned by Audi,Porsche has presented it new model in the town,Macan.Based on the design of Audi Q5,Macan is a solid built crossover.
On the first look you might misjudge Macan as Cayenne,but a closer detailed looks reveals that it is the baby Cayenne.Porsche has always promoted Cayenne as a big SUV,and it has no small car in the crossover segment,ergo Macan was brought into picture.

previewThere’ll be three Macans at launch, all which come with a seven-speed PDK ‘box as standard. All are four-wheel drive, a rear-biased system that varies torque across the back axle, and if that doesn’t work, can shunt up to 100 per cent of grunt to the front wheels.An added feature in every Macan is the sport button,which shoots up the engine rev and also an off-road button,needed during the uneven terrain(You might need to switch it on all the time for Indian roads,LOL jk)

Macan can be considered as a very strategic step from the Porsche managers,considering its size,price and placement in its entire range of beasts,It sits at the bottom of the range,attracting entry level Porsche enthusiast,and of course the ones who are willing to spend quite a lot of bucks on an entry level crossover,than on a mid-level sedan.So,how well this move goes down the throat of Porsche enthusiasts and the experts and critics,only time will tell.

    Porsche 918 Spyder...because seat belts are actually meant to be fastened!

    Porsche has revealed the final production version of its 918 Spyder hybrid supercar, which has lapped the fabled Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany in 6m57s.This time was set by an upgraded version featuring the 'Weissach’ package, named after Porsche's test and development centre.
    It's intended for those customers for whom the standard car's 887bhp, with 0-62mph in 2.8sec is not sufficient. 


    Magnesium wheels reduce unsprung weight, decreasing the gross weight by about 35kg. Other references to motorsport include six-point harness seat belts for the driver and front passenger, an optional film coating instead of a paint finish, plus additional aerodynamic add-on parts in carbon-fibre.


    Let's start just aft of the driver's head in the engine bay where you'll find a 4.6-liter, eight-cylinder engine that produces 608 horsepower. To save weight, the engine uses carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for components like the oil tank and air intake system, titanium for its connecting rods, a high-strength, lightweight steel for the crankshaft, and a thin-walled alloy steel/nickel exhaust system.
    The exhaust system is noteworthy for its top pipes, which fire out of the top of the engine bay, providing the shortest exit path for hot exhaust gases, keeping the weight down thanks to shorter piping, and giving the 918 Spyder a mean, race car look.



    But when the V8 does ignite, skies darken, the film goes into fast forward and a strangely ferocious presence joins you in the car. One of the curiosities of the 918 is its two coffee-can-like “top pipes,” welded thin-steel chambers venting exhaust gases from the top of the deck lid, like a Formula One car. Because of an unexpected backpressure resonance in the tightly nested exhaust track, the 918 has a wild low-rpm gurgle, like an unplugged sewer line.


    In addition to the Hybrid mode, the 918 Spyder also boasts Sport Hybrid and Race Hybrid modes. In these modes, the gasoline engine is the primary source of power, with the electric motors providing support. In Sport mode, there's still some optimization for efficiency, but the track-ready Race mode uses the electric motors to their maximum potential, draining and charging the battery much more aggressively. Race Hybrid mode also puts the PDK gearbox into a more aggressive setting.
    The 918's suspension and chassis are nearly as high-tech as the engine that they cradle.Which adjusts to meet the needs of vehicle. The rear wheels are steerable, turning with the front wheels at high speeds to increase stability and counter the fronts at low speeds to increase agility.

    PORSCHE 911 GT-3: Cut the crap,give this bull some beans!

    PORSCHE,the well known sport brand famous for its to-the-core performance cars has launched yet another version of 911.The 2013 PORSCHE 911 GT3,pushes the gasoline through it veins and this beast tames the tarmac like a hungry tiger on prowl.The looks are typical PORSCHE inspired,the main focus is on what resides under the skin.


    Powered by a 3.8L engine,it develops a max power of 475bhp at a whopping 8,250rpm.While the maximum rpm goes up to 9,000rpm.Talking about the acceleration,the car clocks 3.5 seconds to reach the 100kmph(62mph) mark,yes that's right,this car is capable of blowing your minds off and you would be searching for it,maybe a 100kms behind you.


    It snaps through up-shifts like a hammer on bubble wrap, and never, ever leaves you waiting on a down-change. It really is like being hard-wired directly into the machine. The experience of full-bore acceleration in this car is utterly scintillating, and makes you want to chase the red line again and again.


    The ride is supposed to be much thrilling despite the electric assistance – which improves efficiency but generally kills feedback – Porsche has conjured up steering that comes completely alive in your hands, bobbing and weaving and dancing with the road surface as if it’s barely assisted at all. Genuinely, magic.
     
    The chassis of the new 911 GT3 has been engineered to meet the challenging demands of motorsport – and for this reason it also provides extremely sporty day-to-day driving. The ride height of the new 911 GT3 is 30 mm lower than that of the 911 Carrera. In conjunction with a series of specifically tuned chassis components, this offers extraordinary agility, a high degree of driving safety and stable handling, particularly in corners.


    The red six-piston aluminum brake calipers on the front axle and the four-piston equivalents at the rear are designed as monobloc units. This makes them tougher and enables a more rapid response and release of the brake, even under heavy loads.  

    Notably there are buttons to specifically disable the ESP, the ESP and the traction control together (aka: the burn out button), change the damper settings, the PDK’s intensity (in Race Track it shifts so hard it almost feels like it’s breaking itself, so you might not want that all the time), and the volume of the exhaust.

    From the moment the 911 variant was announced, Porsche has been entirely unapologetic about the technological encroachment into the ‘purity’ of the GT3 – and it’s now plain to see why. As a total package of focused performance, the 2013 GT3 is sensational. Easily this writer’s car of the year so far.
